The Journey from Brokenness to Purpose: How January 6th Changed My Life
January 6th is a day I’ll never forget. It’s a pivotal chapter in my story—a day that turned my world upside down and eventually pushed me toward the life I live today. Five years ago, on January 6, 2020, everything I thought I knew about my life and my future shattered in an instant.
At the time, I was married, a stay-at-home mom to a two-year-old, and 28 weeks pregnant with my second child. My then-husband had recently been fired from my family’s company, leaving me angry, scared, and isolated. On January 6th, my family confronted us at our home while my daughter napped, revealing devastating truths—lies, manipulation, and a betrayal so deep it left me questioning my entire reality.
I learned that he had been living a double life, weaving a web of deception with me and others before me. One moment that stands out is when my uncle asked him point blank if he had multiple sclerosis—something I had believed since we met—and he admitted it was a lie. At that moment, I felt my world crumbling. Everything I thought I knew was a façade.
That day, I packed a bag for my daughter and me, left the house we shared, and never looked back. Over the following weeks and months, I learned just how deep the lies ran. He had left me financially ruined, isolated, and emotionally broken. My family hired a private investigator, and the truths uncovered were almost too much to bear. I was not the first person he had manipulated—at least six others were before me.
I spent many sleepless nights fearing for my life and the safety of my daughters, eventually securing a protective order and an annulment on the grounds of fraud. The years of verbal abuse, isolation, and control began to unravel, and I finally started the journey toward healing.
Despite the trauma, this experience became a turning point in my life. I had to rebuild from the ground up, learning to trust God’s perfect timing and unwavering protection. My family, who I was so angry with just days before January 6th, became my biggest supporters. They revealed the truth, saved me from further harm, and walked alongside me through every painful step of the healing process.
This journey has shaped me into the person I am today—a loving mother, a small business owner, and a certified Unreasonable Hospitality Coach, StoryBrand Guide, and Business Made Simple Coach. These certifications are more than professional milestones; they’re symbols of resilience and purpose. They represent my passion for helping others find clarity in the chaos, uncover blind spots, and create a path forward for themselves and their businesses.
January and February remain challenging months. Trauma has a way of lingering; even when the memories fade, your body remembers. A wise counselor once told me to give myself and my oldest daughter abundant grace during these months. Even though she was too young to remember the details, her body and mind carry the imprint of that time.
Today, I’m grateful for the strength that came from those dark days. My daughters are thriving, and I’m reminded daily of how far we’ve come. When people hear my story, they often ask, “How do you trust anyone after everything you’ve been through?” My answer is simple: I trust in Jesus. Without Him, I wouldn’t be here today. If I don’t trust Him and healthily reopen my heart, the evil I faced wins.
If your year isn’t starting as planned, know it’s okay to feel lost. It takes time, healing, and the right tools to rebuild, but it’s possible. You don’t have to settle for where you are—you can move forward, create a new path, and build a life that brings joy and purpose.
As we packed away Christmas decorations this January 6th, my oldest daughter reminded me that this is also the day the wise men met Jesus—a day of hope and joy. It’s a beautiful reminder that even in the darkest moments, there’s light and the promise of new beginnings.
If you’re ready to pivot, start fresh, or need help strategizing your next move, I’d love to help. Life has taught me there’s always a way forward, and I’d be honored to walk that journey with you.
Here’s to a future filled with clarity, resilience, and God’s grace.
